This week brought plenty of market volatility, but it still didn't make buying conditions any easier.

Tensions between Iran and the US pushed oil and bond yields higher, creating pressure on mortgage rates. Strong demand in the bond market later helped stabilize things, and rates finished the week better than the headlines might have suggested.

That mattered, but it didn't create the combination many buyers are waiting for.

Home sales slowed in June, yet inventory remained tight, home values continued moving higher, and first-time buyers still made up a strong share of the market.

For buyers, waiting for a calmer market doesn't guarantee a lower payment, more homes to choose from, or less competition.
